I am now recruiting for an exciting opportunity to join a leading multinational manufacturing business who seeks a Lead Design Engineer to join the business and manage part of the design department. The company is looking for a highly ambitious and confident Lead Design Engineer to come on board and be part of shaping and developing a growing team. Ideally you will have had some experience of managing others, or have the confidence to do so. You will have strong project management skills and the ability to communicate with all levels of the business. The Key accountabilities of the Lead Design Engineer role are as follows: Drive efficiencies through the creation of parametric template designs, - improved accuracy and reduction in preparation time. Able to incorporate DFM, DFA and DFQ into designs Preparation of conceptual designs and rendered images Responsible for ensuring designs meet required regulatory compliance, CE compliance, Machinery Directives, LVD, etc Ability to work in a pressured environment working on concurrent projects Plan and organise own daily & weekly workload to ensure delivery of weekly production targets and longer-term strategic business objectives. Preparation of design proposals for bespoke applications Preparation of technical quotations Producing estimates of product costs Develop accurate bills of materials Develop, maintain and amend engineering design drawings utilising 3D software packages Prepare product test and validation documents Implement Engineering Changes accurately within required timescales Contribute to new product design, reducing costs and lead times by investigating and implementing new design techniques and manufacturing processes. Investigate customer quality concerns ensuring that timely and effective corrective measures are implemented. Responsible for carrying out risk assessments and advising safe methods of work. Participate in and recommend continuous improvement activities Promote, improve and maintain appropriate quality systems during the design process. Identify own training needs and communicate these through to the Mechanical Design Manager. The Lead Design Engineer will be experienced in the following: Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline Experience in programming, VBA or similar Experience in design engineering within a low or medium volume production environment or instrumentation industry Proficient in the use of 3D drawing packages Excellent knowledge and understanding of parametric design Experience in the design to order industry Knowledge of ERP systems Formal design change management process knowledge Knowledge of fabrication, welding, sand/die casting, vacuum forming processes The client is looking for an experienced Lead Design Engineer with minimum 5 years experience post graduation/ apprenticeship. They are ideally looking for some experience in designing special purpose machinery or material handling equipment but are open to reviewing other similar engineering areas. The company is based in Manchester and is paying circa £35-40 plus great benefits including an annual bonus, healthcare, pension and childcare vouchers.
