Information Architect London Entry Rate £58,636 MI5’s mission is to keep the country and its people safe. Whatever your role at MI5, you'll be contributing to protecting the UK from threats to national security, including terrorism and espionage. We currently need an Information Architect to work within our Information Technology group. The Role As an Information Architect you would be responsible for describing - through a set of requirements, principles and models the information management aspects of data in the enterprise in order to understand the current state and design an enhanced future state. You will need to take a long term view, seeking to anticipate and influence business and technical design decisions that impact the information architecture. In this role you will need to build a strong understanding of the ways the business wishes to use its information, the legal framework under which the organisation operates, as well as close working relationships with the other classes of Architect (e.g. Business, Application, Data and Security) in order to design and deploy an architecture which satisfies business requirements. You will model various aspects of the information environment, including the ever-changing flow of information through the enterprise, in support of an improvement agenda aimed at extracting more value information, simplifying its management, and minimising compliance risks. The Skills Essential: - Strong analytical and communication skills - Knowledge of trends in data modelling, description, management and recording - Understand the difference between conceptual, logical and physical data models - Familiar with information classification approaches such as taxonomy and ontologies - Knowledge and experience in data modelling using at least one industry modelling tool (e.g. Enterprise Architect) - Knowledge of semantic Web/Linked Data approaches and technologies and an understanding of where they are appropriate Desirable: - Experience of translating logical data designs into implementable and performance data structures - Understand data storage models (e.g. hierarchical, relational, document, graph columnar, triple store and data-marts) - Understand approaches to data query - Familiar with approaches to information handling and access control (e.g. RBAC, ABAC) Eligibility criteria To be eligible to apply, you must meet our residency criteria. You must be a born or naturalised British citizen and one of your parents must be a British citizen or have substantial ties to the UK. Candidates must normally have been resident in the UK for nine out of the last ten years prior to application. This is particularly important if you were born outside the UK. You will nonetheless be considered if you have, for example, served overseas with HM Forces or in some other official capacity as a representative of Her Majesty’s Government, studied abroad, or lived overseas with your parents.
