We here at Domestic and General have recently embarked on a multi-year data strategy programme which will deliver a new Master Data Management solution, data virtualization layer and an EDW. We have chosen DB2 Advanced edition products for the technical delivery of the solution. If you have a first class understanding of DB2 and AIX support methods and techniques as well as a strong customer focus and service ethic we have a fantastic opportunity to join as our expert in DB2 DBA. As DB2 Database Administrator you will be joining during the early stages of our Data Strategy programme of delivery of a new master data management solution, data virtualisation layer and enterprise data warehouse for the business. IBM InfoSphere MDM and DB2 Advanced edition have been chosen for the technical delivery of the solution. As DB2 Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the performance, integrity and security of the database that underpins the BI Data Warehouse and Master Data Management (MDM) system. This is an exciting and varied opportunity for someone who likes to heavily involved in major transformations. You will be an essential component of the Build phase, and will play a key role in the planning, configuration and development of the database as well as acting as trouble shooter on the programme. What you will be doing: Supporting the development of data strategy. Maintaining environments from development through to production. Manage the day-to-day operation of IBM DB2 databases including performance monitoring and tuning, archiving, backup management and housekeeping Provide 3rd line support to the operational support team(s) for the resolution of complex support incidents/service requests Liaise with external service providers in support and maintenance of hardware, licensed software and connectivity Undertake root cause analysis of reported faults, design and implement fixes Provide technical expertise in support of projects and service improvement initiatives Ensure that system builds are consistent and manageable, implementing and utilising proactive monitoring tools, where possible Create and maintain support documentation and procedures Provide capacity planning and management of the IBM DB2 databases in line with Business growth plans To be successful in the role you will have a proven background in DB2DBA senior roles and an expert knowledge of DB2 database installations: DB2 installation design, development and deployment Change/version control DB Admin tasks such as Backup and Restore, DB Optimization, tuning, Capacity Management etc… DB2 Advanced Workgroup management Database failover and DR setup Extensive exposure to DB2 AIX based environments hosted on IBM Power 7 systems (iSeries), Extensive UNIX experience on other IBM platforms considered Trouble shooting skills related to: databases, job/script management, performance tuning In addition to the above any of the following is desirable Data Vault and Star Schema modelling techniques Database partitioning and adaptive compression SQL Server Stored procedures DB2 Workload Management DB2 advanced v9.x AIX Advanced Edition This job was originally posted as www.totaljobs.com/job/66850220
