JOB SUMMARY We are looking for a strong Developer in Test (WEB) to help us to continue to deliver new systems and product enhancements to our clients and to help support, maintain and improve the quality of our existing systems. This is a new and impactful role focusing on our web based client portal. The person in this role will shape and develop our approach to testing by helping to establish process and practices for automated testing. Our emerging test function will be staffed by testers who are creative, technically aware, highly skilled and driven towards continuous improvement. BACKGROUND Kobalt is the leading technology-powered music services company, offering end-to-end solutions for over 50,000 artists and songwriters and 800 labels and publishing companies. Through Kobalt technology and services, creators benefit from more money, better reporting, and maintain ownership and control over how their work is distributed, tracked, collected, and monetized. With the award-winning Kobalt desktop portal and app, Kobalt clients get real-time insight into their work and activity. We’re currently over 400 people based across 10 offices and we’re expecting to grow. That’s where you come in. Our system is currently responsible for sending worldwide notifications of all of our clients’ songs; and it delivers albums, singles and videos to a whole host of digital services, including iTunes, Spotify, YouTube and many others. It also licenses use of our clients work in TV, Film, Games, and Adverts. Once all of that has been done, it then has the not-so-small job of processing the millions of resulting payments through to our clients. This means that we work with core Java libraries, Swing UI, J2EE technologies and Apache/Tomcat, and testing with JUnit. Tasks include modifying or creating new third party integrations with AWS, PayPal, Docusign or others. Perhaps you’ll be adapting our processes for encoding, transcoding, and delivering master audio and video files. No one week will be like another as we strive to improve and innovate. WHAT DOES A WEB PORTAL DEVELOPER IN TEST AT KOBALT DO? Testing needs to be an integral part of our development process and a talented Developer in Test (WEB) is required to set up the frameworks to deliver automated testing for our web based client portal. We work in a collaborative environment so the lead Developer in Test (WEB) is expected to contribute to planning, analyse requirements and, working alongside product managers and developers, formulate and execute acceptance tests as part of wider delivery frameworks. You will be a key part of a Kobalt-wide testing community and will be dedicated to a domain-specific team, offering domain expertise to developers, product managers and the wider business. In time this team will grow and you will be able to manage and mentor more junior members of the team or dedicate yourself to the evolution of the testing function in other ways. HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Ajax) · Experience of PHP (or similar) functional testing frameworks (eg. Codeception) · Knowledge of compatibility testing and advanced features of common web browsers · A desire to get into the data; Interrogating databases via SQL · Unit testing – a talent for complimenting unit tests with automated acceptance tests · Exposure to working in an Agile (Scrum/Kanban) development environment · Proven ability to apply a strategic approach to testing · Ability to rapidly understand and question requirements to formulate tests · Familiarity with scripted and non-scripted test approaches · Exposure to the full lifecycle, from requirements gathering to production testing · Knowledge of common web debugging/monitoring tools (eg.
