The closing date for this post is 12 noon on Wednesday 26 th October 2016 A strategic alliance has been formed between Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police in order to enable both forces to meet the challenge of reducing policing budgets. By working more closely together the forces will benefit from greater operational and organisational resilience, making us the fourth largest geographic police area in England and Wales . The main purpose of role is to provide an expert/specialist technical support and solutions development capability in respect of designated application software and associated middleware toolsets. Main Responsibilities: To provide an effective 3rd line technical support capability, carrying out system management & 3rd line problem solving activities, including invoking external support as necessary. To provide a solutions development capability, including carrying out analysis, research & development, production of specifications and implementation of agreed solutions. To work, as directed by the Team Leader, to deliver an effective, high quality service to the organisation. To manage and work with suppliers & 3rd parties to deliver an effective service provision. To provide documentation to the prescribed standard for the service or project and ensure any change in procedure and/or documentation is available to relevant parties at the earliest opportunity To work with internal teams as necessary to fulfil business objectives, including participation in project teams Maintain/enhance working knowledge of emerging technology and practices. To disseminate knowledge in respect of allocated specialism’s to other members of the organisation and to act as a consultant in such matters To actively support the transfer of applicable 1st and 2nd line support activities and appropriate implementation activities to Service Delivery Teams. To provide, as directed, project management function in support of infrastructure changes To be familiar with and support the aims and objectives of the team, section, department, directorate and organisation. Experience/Skills: Current expert working knowledge of some of the key technologies listed below: Microsoft IIS & .Net Oracle application tier products including Application Server Datastage Siteminder Autonomy Business Objects Significant experience in a similar technical role/environment, including: Working within physical and virtual teams. Problem solving and system management. Solutions analysis & development and systems implementation Management of applications through 3rd parties Significant hands-on experience in a 3rd line specialist support / solutions development environment, in some of the following areas: Microsoft IIS & .Net Oracle application tier products including Application Server Datastage Siteminder Autonomy Business Objects A good working knowledge of Microsoft operating systems, Excellent personal organisation and timekeeping. Excellent inter-personal skills. Ability to remain calm and controlled and maintain good performance within a mission critical service delivery environment. Requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail Ability to quickly absorb and understand the technical aspects of new ICT technologies Demonstrable flexible approach to work, high level of self-motivation and proven delivery of results with minimum supervision and within tight time frames. Excellent verbal and written skills including the ability to analyse business requirements and produce specifications, reports, recommendations and system documentation. The ability to effectively present information in a variety of ways as appropriate to the customer. Proven ability to operate at all levels within an organisation and with suppliers and partner organisations with ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical staff and to describe technical issues in non-technical terms. Ability to work within a multi-discipline team responsible for supporting key technologies. Ability to manage the implementation of system upgrades, working with other ICT technical staff, business users and 3rd party suppliers The ability to act as a consultant within the organisation, offering specialist expertise and guidance is essential.
