About My client is a dynamic team of people who are extremely passionate about domain names and online brand protection. Their clients span the globe entrusting them with their global domain name portfolio, a very detailed orientated operation with highly sensitive information. Right now they are seeking a passionate, articulate and driven junior to mid LAMP Developer to manage its highly intricate PHP orientated bespoke platform and help propel the product into the future. The product they have created is the centrepiece of the entire operation and is vast in that captures all the business processes of a typical DNS Registrar and Brand Protection outfit unlike its competitors. About the Role Initially your role as a PHP Developer will focus on two areas: 1. Helping to maintain and improve the existing domain name management platform. This platform is currently implemented using the PHP Symfony (1.4) framework. 2. Developing a new and exciting way of managing domains from a UI and Back End point of view for the future. Responsibilities The number of domain name extensions has increased from about 20 generics such as com, .net org to well over 600 such as .london, .ninja and .club. This means you will be involved in the forefront of the expansion domain name industry (new .com boom) faced with some of the following challenges: Managing and maintaining large numbers of persistence connections to all the registries in an efficient and scaleable manner. Creating new and initiative ways for searching for domains across hundreds of different top level domains that don't overwhelm the user and also don't negatively impact Back End systems at the same time. Enable clients to manage their ever growing domain name portfolios in an efficient manner from everything to renewing large numbers of domains in a quick and painless manner to providing tools to manage large numbers of DNS records in a user friendly manner. Developing the next generation of API for reseller customers giving putting more power in their hands. What You Need to Know They don't restrict themselves to a specific language or technology. The world will be your oyster (at least at work). All you need to do is pick the best options for the job Current systems - they use a traditional LAMP (Linux, Aapache, MySQL and PHP) stack for the most part on Debian and Ubuntu machines, they currently also use both Symfony 1 and 2. From a database perspective they use MySQL (migrating to MariaDB) and some Elasticsearch. Understanding XML is also important, as the primary protocol used to communicate in the domain name world is EPP, an XML based protocol over persistent TCP connection(s). You will need to be able to think out of the box and on your feet and be passionate about what you do. The PHP Developer role will be free flowing and expand into areas that you most enjoy and are best suited to as the team grows. Perks My client realises that a PHP Developer will gravitate toward certain roles and areas in London. To counteract that they are willing to offer:- - All travel paid for - Company mobile phone and laptop - Attendance at industry conferences - Potential to work from home on occasion - 6 personal days off on top of your annual allowance of 25 days - Potential to work from global offices (great locations). The role would suit a junior to mid-weight PHP Developer that has a genuine entrepreneurial streak in them and are interested in helping an already global operation grow to the next phase. This is an excellent opportunity for a junior to mid PHP Developer to work in an environment where there is genuinely no bureaucracy at all one that will harvest innovative ideas and approaches to work.
