A leading fresh food manufacturer based in NW London is looking for an ambitious and hardworking Assistant Development Chef from a food technology or food sciences background. This role would suit an entry level applicant looking to start their career within food manufacturing who comes from a related academic background. The role To assist with creating and developing new product ideas by taking into account market trends, operations, packaging, material costing…etc. and in preparing prototype samples for internal meetings with the stories behind the development To assist with conducting tests and/or inspections of raw materials and packages to be used and/or being used at the factory to set up recipes and to improve quality and also to make sure that the margin and sales should not be underperformed after the launch Conduct trials to improve existing products’ procedure quality, taste and presentation. Arrange tasting with relevant staff accordingly and summarize the result and analyse it for further work To help with presenting the findings, recommendations and ideas to the New Product Development Manager and retail partners - record the findings and create specifications for each of the products The administrational capabilities to record findings and create specifications for each of the developed or improved products Taking all necessary data during the development work such as yield, wastage, material ratio, and check mass balance, the time to be taken by Production staff/required number of a new staff for a new product. All the data should be filed properly as the Company’s important information These information would be used in material cost calculation, product information during development work as well as improvement work of existing products Quality improvement work mainly for the existing products to contribute increase sales and reduce the wastage Assist in preparing samples for both internal and external purposes if NPD Samples organizer is not available Understand the factory machine operations to conduct machine tests with new product ideas and set up the programs and also to train the production staff as a part of factory trials Work with Process team to validate products using factory machines and equipment such as steamer, oven, Dim Sum machines, Rheon machine…etc. Maybe asked to assist in data collection Assist with conducting market research to check and record competitors’ products, market trend, prices, packaging all useful information to contribute to any development work and report to NPD Manager on regular basis Attend factory trials in consultation with Process team, product launch to supervise all the processes Attend internal NPD related meetings (NPD Meeting/Feasibility Meeting/Work Shop meeting) and take meeting minutes when it is requested Liaise with all the Managers during new product development work to ensure that new products would comply with all the regulations and not cause unexpected expense after the launch Check yield and wastage of any new ingredients which will be used for material cost calculation, product specification Assist in preparing necessary documentations in order to obtain an internal approval and to launch the product externally Ideal applicant Graduate or equivalent in Food Science, food manufacturing or similar field Qualified chef ideally NVQ level 4 or equivalent Strong numeracy Professional communication style Advance food hygiene level 2 (minimum) IT literate If your application is successful, you will be contacted within two working days.
