With a portfolio of over 850 product lines, we produce more than 10% of the UK’s generic medicines from our Barnstaple site and can supply over 85% of UK pharmacies’ category M dispensing needs. This means we’re supporting patients to receive the medicines they need, when they need them. We are a local company with national reach, always looking for innovative ways to grow and offering excellent opportunities for development. The Role: We are seeking a proactive and technical Engineering Shift Leader to join our operations team to assist us in delivering consistently high production standards across our generic and branded products. Leading a complete shift, you’ll manage a team of general and specialist Engineers (and occasionally contractors), delegating tasks, checking their output and lending electrical and mechanical support to meet the department’s objectives; you’ll also be the key contact on each shift to provide support on the Coswin Computer Maintenance Management system. Developing a strong working knowledge of our machines, you’ll develop and implement cost effective solutions to improve their efficiency, reliability and performance. Working closely with other departments (e.g. Quality, Manufacturing) you’ll establish, and continuously review, planned maintenance and reactive repair schedules, considering machine history and manufacturers’ recommendations along with resource and equipment needs to minimise operating downtime. Responsible for the line management and recruitment of your team, you’ll be experienced in managing, motivating and monitoring individual performance, creating development plans or taking remedial action as appropriate. Valuing safety and quality, maintaining compliant operations is central to all you do; with a sound understanding of good manufacturing practice (GMP) and environment, health and safety (EHS) standards, you’ll work closely with your team to follow regulatory requirements, Company policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to the letter. Where deviations occur, you’ll action and close CAPAs and Change Controls in an effective and timely manner. To maintain quality levels, you’ll participate in regular audits, champion our Continuous Improvement initiatives and contribute to departmental projects to guarantee they come in on time, in budget and to the required standards. In addition, you’ll deputise for the department Manager and provide cross shift or out of hours support (including some weekend overtime), as required. The Person: With significant experience as a practising Engineer, ideally in a highly regulated ‘clean room’ environment, you will have a good understanding of quality management systems (QMS), a sound technical aptitude (electrical and mechanical) and be experienced working with GMP guidelines and EHS standards. Having completed a recognised engineering apprenticeship, you’ll hold a HNC (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline. Ideally you’ll have experience working in ATEX areas and on ATEX certified equipment, and come with a good track record of identifying and implementing Continuous Improvement initiatives. We’re looking for someone with excellent interpersonal and communication skills (in written and spoken English), who can operate with diplomacy and be able to provide clear and confident leadership when needed. Experience of formally leading and managing a team would be an advantage, but involvement in supporting relevant activities, delivering change in a team environment and a strong desire to develop in this area are equally important. With a strong sense of drive, you’ll be well organised, able to juggle multiple tasks at once and react to changing work priorities in a calm and logical manner. A good level of numeracy, literacy and IT skills are essential for this role. The Rewards: We offer a competitive salary package (with substantial shift premium), ongoing training opportunities, a generous pension scheme and 27 days’ holiday per year, plus bank holidays. We also offer a range of other benefits to support you, including childcare vouchers, cycle to work scheme, subsidised restaurant facilities, sports and social club and healthcare options.
