We are looking for a "hands-on" Mechanical Design Engineer for a role based just outside Cambridge. We are seeking a candidate with a high level of practical experience, proven technical skills and a genuine passion for engineering. As a key member of a growing design team you will work closely with the team involved in the design process and will have primary responsibility of the design, development and implementation of new products within predefined budget and time constraints. This is for a project designing the support framework and racking for radar systems, so an understanding of how this will be manufactured is key. Main Responsibilities: Participate in the design, development and implementation of technically innovative and commercially competitive new products Support the maintenance and development of existing projects Manage and lead projects from concept through to launch some of which may be outside of the normal remit of the role. Produce and maintain technical documentation, including CAD drawings, costing data, technical construction files, design calculations, bills of materials, technical specifications, marketing information, test data etc. Liaise with clients, capture their requirements and prepare proposals. Qualifications, Experience & Skills: Minimum of 2 years design experience from concept through to production Appropriate degree in Engineering although not essential in the case of an otherwise exceptional candidate with industry experience HND/HNC in mechanical engineering as a minimum Be competent with Pro-E Creo Have an in depth understanding of design for manufacture Expert in preparing drawings and CAD models for manufacture Excellent understanding of a wide range of manufacturing techniques, materials and assembly processes FMEA Good problem solving skills and understand the fundamentals of root cause analysis Enthusiasm for innovation and creativity, demonstrated by evidence of proactive and commercially - relevant development. Strong creative and technical abilities in the following areas: Concept generation; System level design; Engineering analysis and detail design; 3D CAD (Pro-Engineer); Prototyping and testing; Materials selection; Design for high and low volume manufacture A good working knowledge of Microsoft products This job was originally posted as
