We are looking for an experienced Production Database Engineer to join our DBA team in head office in Chippenham. The role: Reporting into the Head of 3nd Line, this role is responsible for supporting the Live Production, Oracle databases, ensuring their performance, availability and security. The role requires liaising with various departments, including the development, implementation and commercial teams. Below are the responsibilities, accountabilities against this role. These may be reviewed and amended periodically as and when appropriate. Key responsibilities: · Excellent Change and Incident management. · Optimisation and performance improvements in conjunction with the development and application support teams on live systems to alleviate production problems. · Manage Database licensing of Existing systems reducing costs where applicable. · Provide support to Operational and development teams. · Awareness and implementation of operational fixes in production databases. · Design of new operational monitors. · Responsible for ensuring availability, backup, security and performance of all Oracle systems. · Knowledge of both Standard & Enterprise Editions together with the Oracle Pricing Structures on both Windows and Linux systems. · Work with the team to ensure that the associated hardware resources allocated to the databases and to ensure high availability and optimum performance. · To proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime. · Providing trend analysis to the service management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management. · Escalating problems to Oracle Support and third parties as appropriate. · Mentoring and providing training for junior DBA and support staff as well as supporting the DBA team leader and stepping into this role when necessary. · On-going administration of database objects and page locks to achieve optimum utilisation. · Management of the database housekeeping to achieve availability. · Defining triggers that will generate events to identify potential performance or integrity issues. · Monitoring and reporting of usage. · Generating system ad hoc reports. · Maintaining database standards. · Provide Production DBA support for all database related incidents. · Complete monthly reports on all SLA KPI’s (Backups, Capacity planning) together with application reports where needed. · Maintain Application Code change and recipes. · Change Management contributor - implementing database application changes as requested including impact analysis, capacity planning and writing and following work Instructions. · Helps with Capacity Planning of existing systems and measurement against generated estimates. Key accountabilities: · Completion of project tasks against schedule. · Acceptance of handover to the support service line of new database systems. · Joint support of new live services with ACT product support for grace period. · Database performance targets. · Capacity Planning Targets. · Completion of maintenance tasks against schedule. · Incident management relating to database. · Accuracy of Application Database Model Changes · Database event management. Key skills: · In-depth knowledge of Oracle systems and proven Oracle Database Administration experience. · Relevant degree or professional qualifications. · Strong SQL and PL/SQL skills. · Very strong knowledge of both Linux and Windows systems. · Excellent Backup and Recovery Knowledge and a proven practical experience. · Experience of working in a team that delivers a high availability service. · Strong communication skills to technical and non-technical people. · Able to work as part of a cross functional / cross technology team. · Good understanding and working knowledge of ITIL. · Practical experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide a high availability service. · Disciplined and organised. · Good time management. · Exceptional attention to detail. · Problem solving skills.
