The products are technically sophisticated precision assemblies, there is high product variety and technical detail and its customers include Defence, Aerospace, Medical and Telecommunications sectors. This Manufacturing Engineering Director is a key role reporting to the General Manager and forms part of the senior leadership team and is a great opportunity to influence strategy and shape the future engineering direction of the site. Operating within a Quality conscious environment which is starting upon its Lean journey, responsibility is for the leadership of a team of 8 colleagues in R&D, Planning, Manufacturing Engineering and Applications Engineering. You will focus on the progressive introduction of methodologies and working practices which will involve and enthuse the workforce and lead to increased efficiencies, greater flexibility and responsiveness to changes in the product mix and their smooth introduction into manufacturing. For this Manufacturing Engineering Director role you will have significant Lean experience and excellent team leadership and coaching skills. You will be graduate qualified in an engineering or scientific discipline and have accrued related qualifications in manufacturing such as Six Sigma and also be familiar with tools such as SMED and TPM. Your career will have developed in world class manufacturing environments where Lean is the norm, and candidates of interest will come from manufacturers whose products have technically demanding design and build characteristics. Experience in the areas of advanced optics or photonic technologies would be highly advantageous.
