Located in Sheffield, we are currently working alongside a large manufacturing company who specialise in the design and development of high precision steel products to the construction sector. Due to continued growth, the company is seeking to make a key appointment with an experienced Senior Engineer to reinforce the established team at the Sheffield site. Within the role, you will assist in the continued development of the companies global product and service portfolio to meet changes in construction methods, materials and regulations. This is a varied and demanding role requiring an innovative thinker who will challenge existing practices both in the company and the industry. The primary purpose of the role is as follows: To gain specification of the companies products by offering practical, cost effective solutions to problems posed by specifiers and product end users. To review, manage and respond to enquiries. To manage the available resources to achieve this To provide training and support to team members To provide technical support to the product support sales team to secure orders. Beyond this you will be expected to contribute to the development of personnel, systems, and product development processes, typical duties will include: Managing Resources: Utilise available resources to ensure quality and maximise efficiency Monitor the quality of the output produced by the Product development team. Provide training or take corrective action as necessary. Assess skill requirements and urgency of incoming requests/enquiries and prioritise as appropriate. Provide training and support to team members as required. Monitor the team project files, records and documentation to maintain a high standard. Process Enquiries: To respond to requests from Specifiers, Engineers and Contractors to maximise opportunities Review the project documentation issued to Product development. Liaise with internal sales to ensure all data and any historical information is available. Correspond with the enquirer to request additional information or communicate problems as necessary. Ensure all necessary calculations, drawings and designs are produced and are illustrated to a good concise standard Prepare clear and accurate manufacturing drawings and schedules for order processing by the sales team. Attend site meetings as required to discuss specific requirements or address problems. Co-ordinate approvals and customers instructions regarding manufacture Standard product drawings: Assist in ensuring that standard drawings and technical files are maintained, controlled and available for all appropriate products. To assist in the maintenance of control systems such that all data is secure so that they cannot be created, modified or deleted without appropriate authorisation. Within this role you will be a source of knowledge for internal technical support issues as well as external technical support issues. You will also be involved in supporting and maintaining product design software as well as being involved in product development and improvement. Problem Solving: To produce safe, practical, and cost-effective solutions to design and construction problems encountered by Specifiers, Engineers and Contractors and maximise specification opportunities for the companies products For instance: Identify opportunities for new products and the re-engineering of existing products to reduce costs, improve, or meet new requirements. Liaise with the Product Engineering team as required and appropriate. Creation, coordination and validation of design methods, spreadsheets, programs and tools. Review of new standards for impact on their existing product range, designs and processes. Give training / revise software / create new calculations as applicable. To be considered for this role you will need the following: Engineering degree or a masters in a relevant discipline (structural engineering, etc) Chartered engineer (Desirable)Member of a professional relevant institute Minimum of five years experience with structural products, particularly design and development Experience in the design of masonry, concrete and steel structures Ability to understand structural problems and produce solutions supported by calculations, engineering principles and past experience Clear and practical understanding of construction methods and practice on site Commercial skills applied to design and development Working experience in all relevant calculation methods Experience of specifying structural and concrete products for incorporation into designs Ability to use AutoCAD The above is a fairly comprehensive overview of some of the duties and responsibilities which are inherent within this role.
