Highways Engineer/ Senior Highways Engineer - Manchester Arup is a firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists offering a broad range of professional services globally. We are a key player in the Highways market and are currently engaged in significant highways projects across the UK and Overseas. We currently have an opportunity for an Engineer to join our Highways business based at our Manchester site. Arup Manchester is a true multidisciplinary office, with strong buildings, infrastructure and consulting teams in addition to specialists such as lighting, fire, acoustics and sustainability. As a Highways Engineer with Arup, you will report into the Team lead or project manager and be responsible for leading small design-focused teams as part of a larger major projects group. The role will include design, management and coordination, often liaising with other multi-disciplinary contributors to the project. Your main responsibilities as a Highways Engineer will involve: Responsible for managing your own work (designs, drawings, calculations, reports, etc.) as part of a design team Ensuring that all work is quality checked to certify compliance with local Arup Management System Assurance procedures Responsibility for issuing work (design packages, drawing production, basic calculations, etc.) to graduate engineers and technicians Monitoring team performance Demonstrating highways experience in one or more areas of technical capability such as alignment, junction design, drainage, pavement, signs and road markings in order to support the team Travelling within the UK to other Arup & client sites will occasionally be required Your skills and qualifications: A Civil engineer with post-graduation experience, or a Design technician post-qualification (HNC/HND) experience Actively working towards IEng, CEng or similar status Experience in the UK and/or an overseas highways industry is essential Design skills of benefit would include knowledge and experience of relevant highway design codes (e.g. DMRB) Ability in, and demonstrable experience of, the application of 3D highway design software packages (e.g. InRoads, MX) on major highways Design experience in general technical aspects of highway design would be advantageous - such as drainage, road signs and lines, pavement, and liaison with statutory undertakers What we're looking for in you: You will have excellent leadership skills and be able lead the team to deliver service excellence at all levels.
