At our world class facility in Elphinstone, Tranent (close to Edinburgh), our IT Department currently has an exciting career opportunity for a Senior IT Systems Administrator. Job Information Responsible for technical administration and execution of IT infrastructure design, configuration and operation in a multi-server environment. Implement new IT infrastructure or upgrade existing systems in a regulated environment. Key Responsibilities: · Perform routine to moderately complex technical activities in the implementation and maintenance of IT infrastructure. Perform and/or assist in installation, configuration and upgrade of these systems. · Provide trouble-shooting support for routine to moderately complex hardware, operating system, and connectivity issues. · Assist in design, implementation and maintenance of the virtualization infrastructure used within the data centers. Assist in the development of the strategy for adoption of virtualization technologies. · Assist in design, implementation and maintenance of the network and communication technologies used within the company. · Ensure timely and effective level 2 support for questions related to networks, servers, storage and virtualization systems. Plan, fix and deploy patch releases for these systems as required. Manage user expectations through timely communications. · Assist in the implementation and maintenance of backup and restore activities according to existing processes and procedures. · Assist in the development and execution of disaster recovery plans. · Perform and/or assist in the installation and maintenance of data center facilities (UPS, A/C, etc). Liaison with company facilities staff and data center equipment vendors. · May provide liaison support between company and hardware/software vendors. · Assist in the creation and maintenance of system documentation, including qualification plans, configuration management and change control. Review, implement and maintain server security policies. · Assist in the development and implementation of common operating procedures and policies for IT infrastructure. · Implement core IT practices, including project management per the SDLC, portfolio management, testing and qualification/validation. · Provide training and/or ensure effective knowledge transfer to those Applicants should have: · Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in computer science or related discipline. · Experience: Related experience in systems administration and implementation, ideally implementing server and/or storage Systems. · An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
