Description of Area of Business The IT Development department is responsible for developing new or enhanced capabilities for our mortgage servicing platform. Small cross-functional teams are responsible for the end-to-end delivery of changes, using lean-agile practices to remain responsive to business needs and deliver incrementally to reduce the ‘time to value’ and maximise the return on investment in technology. Main Purpose of the Role The Scrum Master is a member of the development team typically comprising 3-4 software engineers, 1-2 test analysts, a business analyst and/or product owner and a Scrum Master. The successful candidate will work closely with the team and its stakeholders. Whilst they share responsibility for the delivery of valuable software, the Scrum Master’s focus is on supporting how the team works – its process and culture - rather than the task in hand. The level of involvement of a Scrum Master will vary on a team basis: they may work full-time with a team; or may only be needed on an occasional basis for more mature teams. Person Specification You will be a self-starter, an agile enthusiast, someone with the passion to want to continually grow, improve your craft and learn new tools and techniques. You will be able to cultivate an attitude of disclosure and transparency with your stakeholder about the development process and encourage trust. You will have the knowledge and experience of applying lean agile principles in a software development context. Key Responsibilities 1. Assist the team meet its commitments by: Facilitating workshops and other collaborative sessions including, planning sessions, daily stand-ups, demonstrations and retrospectives. Helping to remove impediments and sponsoring cross-team improvements. Escalating issues and significant risks faced by the team. Working with stakeholders to ensure their appropriate and timely involvement. Enabling the collection of suitable metrics Identifying standards and regulatory requirements that must be met by the team. 2. Lead the ongoing improvement in the team’s capability , specifically to: Enable the team to be self-aware, identify improvements and welcome change. Enable learning and knowledge sharing within and across teams. Help the team apply specific techniques and practices. 3. Contribute to the wider Scrum Master and development community , by: Proactively sharing knowledge, techniques, tools etc. Providing peer support, coaching and mentoring for other practitioners. Helping to continuously improve Computershare’s software development practices. Essential Skills, Experience and Competencies Computer Science (or similar) degree or experience or working in a commercial software development environment In depth knowledge of agile values and principles, specifically knowledge of at least one of the following agile methods: Scrum, DSDM or eXtreme Programming. Experience of working in a cross-functional team within an agile development environment Awareness of allied bodies of knowledge such as lean and Kanban, particularly as applied to software development Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – able to build relationships and work in a team; influence and challenge effectively; listen effectively; and respond to challenge from others. Facilitator and Coach. Curious and continuous learner – able to investigate, interpret and present ideas. Self starter and problem solver, energetic and energising. Active learner. Passionate about continuous improvement and enabling change to improve the effectiveness and quality of software delivery.
