My client a leading specialist within its field is seeking an experienced Engineering Project Manager to join their successful team based at their site in Newport. Reporting to the Site Engineering Manager you will be responsible for maximising availability of the plant and processes and ensuring they operate effectively, efficiently and safely by implementing Capital and Improvement Projects throughout the site. Role Responsibilities: Prepare proposals and requests for capital investment, ability to liaise with cross functional groups of contractors, purchasing, engineering & production groups is essential. Prepare scope of work and specifications for projects. Carry out negotiations on delivery, technical performance, planning and contractual agreements. Carry out acceptance and witness testing of new equipment both at supplier's premises and on-site. Formally report back the findings of the test. Carry out training of operators, engineers and craftsmen. Carry out supervision of contract personnel throughout the project. Manage project expenditure in order that agreed solutions are delivered within budget. Ensure compliance with company safety policies by championing the importance of safe working methods and practices and the commitment to the importance of compliance. Ensure company contractor policies are adhered to by all parties involved in work under project control. Institute rigorous standards for housekeeping & recommend improvement procedures. Promote an awareness of cost within the team and the importance of cost management. Involve purchasing group at correct point of process. Negotiate best costs for all work below purchasing scope of involvement. Promote competition amongst vendors by introducing new suppliers. Reduce sudden high costs by forward planning of key spend items for CAPEX planning. Support plant CI initiatives by attending CI meetings when requested and delivering actions in an agreed time. Actively participate in CI workshops and promote the CI culture within the plant. To lead improvement projects handed over and agreed from the CI team. To act as the liaison between the Projects team ensuring equipment (new or modified) are handed over to the engineering team when 'buy off criteria' is reached. Provide the resource to give the required training to all users & maintainers of all projects completed. Working knowledge of the following systems so that the best solutions are provided for all the various improvements & projects assigned to the department. PLC's - Able to undertake modifications to the various processors on site, Control Logix, Compact Logix, MicroLogix & SLC to provide onsite assistance to implement small improvement ideas. Networks - Knowledge of the site standard networks (DH / ControlNet / RIO / DeviceNet / Ethernet) Drive systems - Knowledge of ABB/AB/Siemens variable speed drives. Foxboro DCS - Overview of system make up & interconnection with plc's OSI PI - Ability to generate tags in all the various site control systems that then can be connected to the OSI PI system and new then create the new tags in OSI PI which enables various reports & data collection screens to be devised to aid production. Support the Engineering Manager in keeping the Site, buildings and fabric, physical infrastructure and Manufacturing and Assembly assets and equipment, in a well maintained and safe condition through implementation of agreed capex projects. The successful candidate requirements: An experienced engineer with a degree. Ability to prove project management skills and a strong technical understanding of PLC's, Drives, Networks & Mechanics Highly tuned people management skills along with strong communication skills Experienced in the application of Health & Safety procedures with an understanding of the principles of Employment and Safety at Work Legislation & PUWER Regulations. Demonstrable achievements in Continuous Improvement, Change Management disciplines, tools and techniques and evident motivation to impart these to others. Use of a leadership style that creates confidence and commitment across a range of work groups rather than simply with own department. IOSH Safety Qualification or ideally NEBOSH certificate Data driven & Result focused. Proactive mind-set and excellent planning skills. This job was originally posted as
