An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic people to be part of the expansion of Aberdeenshire Council's Home Care Out of Hours Service. We are looking for people available to respond to situations in the community. Supported by an Out of Hours Care Team Coordinator, you will be required to respond to situations in the community. The work is varied and interesting with the job satisfaction that comes from being part of a vital service in the community, meeting the needs of the vulnerable people. Evening work (17:00 - 22:00 hrs) will be carried out by two Home Carers working as part of a team, responding to planned and unplanned calls. You will have the use of transport provided by Aberdeenshire Council as a means of travel between service users and be responsible for the security and safe keeping of buildings and equipment. Contracts available: 20 hours, North West Aberdeenshire This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. The preferred candidate will also be required to provide an Overseas Criminal Records Check from other countries as deemed necessary. Requirements Home carers are members of a caring team led by the Homecare Supervisor, whose responsibilities are to assist people with disabilities or those who are ill or frail to maintain their ability to live independently in the Community, by providing them with support in their homes. The support given by Home Carers enables the service users to achieve the activities of daily living and maintain their quality of life. Evening and night work will be carried out by two Home Carers working as part of a team . Responsibilities To support service users to undertake: Tasks associated with maintenance of the home Tasks associated with personal care Tasks associated with maintaining health General tasks Communicate effectively with Care Team Co-ordinator To respond to planned and unplanned calls outwith office hours To use transport provided by Aberdeenshire Council as a means of travel between service users Receive and provide a comprehensive handover report to the Out of Our Home Care Supervisor Ensure H&S procedures are adhered to regarding moving and use of any equipment Ensure that buildings are left secure and otherwise manage the safe keeping of equipment and a council vehicle The Individual Essential Academic achievement to Scottish National Level 4 or 5, Standard Grades or equivalent transferable experience and skills Current valid driving licence Ability to work on own initiative and within service required guidelines Ability to build and sustain appropriate professional relationships within the team and family members Ability to communicate clearly to service users and other professionals using a range of communication methods Understanding of the needs and rights of older people and people with disabilities Ability to cope with demanding work from both a physical and emotional perspective Ability to exercise discretion in dealing with confidential and or sensitive matters Desirable SVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or agreement to undertake in post within specified period Willing to commit to training in order to achieve SSSC Registration Experience of working in a care setting Ability to work in challenging situations with diplomacy and tact Knowledge of Health and Safety standards in the workplace This job was originally posted as www.totaljobs.com/job/66862645
