Terms andconditions Post title: ITNetwork Engineer Salary: £35,000- £42,000 Annual leave: 30 days,plus public holidays Weekly hours: 35 Mondayto Friday Reporting to: Head ofIT PRINCIPALRESPONSIBILITIES 1. Provide a customer focussedIT service that helps users achieve their work objectives. 2. Ensure that the School’snetwork remains operational, secure and up to date. MAIN DUTIES 1. Configuration andmaintenance of physical and virtual server environments. 2. Control user access to thenetwork though the maintenance of active directory. 3. Maintain standard MS serverapplications including Exchange. 4. Performing daily systemmonitoring including reviewing system and application logs. 5. Apply OS and security patchesand upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools andutilities. Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resourceoptimisation. 6. Backup key systems securelyso that they can be recovered as part of the business recovery programme. 7. Maintain terminal server asan effective user desktop. 8. Support remote access tothe network, via Windows and MAC OS, for employees working away from theoffice. 9. Perform ‘in-house’ andarrange third party regular security monitoring of the network and of websites toidentify any possible risks and / or intrusions. 10. Update anti-virusdefinitions on servers and clients. 11. Administer the DDI phonesystem. 12. Support network usersthrough desktop support. 13. During periods of leave todeputise for the Head of IT. 14. To undertake any otherduties as delegated by the Head of IT as may from time to time be necessary toensure the smooth running of the School’s operations. Personspecification Education An appropriate degree or HND and/or several years’ practical experience in the field. Microsoft network qualification such as an MCSA. Experience Installation, configuration and maintenance of: · Microsoft Exchange · Microsoft SQL · Windows Server · Windows Desktop · Lynix · Hyper V · Moodle Work management Ability to organise and manage workload and to manage user expectations. Use the IT helpdesk. Excellent attention to detail . Ability to work independently and to possess a flexible and professional approach. Ability to prioritise workloads and manage deadlines. Determining matters that should be referred to the Head of IT before an action is undertaken. Willingness and ability to work outside of normal working hours, for which compensatory time off will be provided, to respond to serious network issues and to perform maintenance and upgrade tasks at a time of low network usage. Relationships Ability to work as part of a small team. Excellent communication and inter-personal skills and ability to communicate at all levels. 13. Good team player. 14.
