Job Title: Sonar Engineer Location: Barnstaple Salary: Up to £45,000 per annum Sector: Engineering/Software All applications to: An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Sonar Engineer to work within a successful software and engineering company based in Barnstaple. Job Purpose: - To provide specialist expertise in the development of low profile acoustic arrays for deployment from manned and unmanned platforms. - Working within a dynamic Advanced Technologies Group you will play a leading role in the design and development of innovative, cutting edge sonar sensing systems for use by the Royal Navy and various overseas customers - Domestic and at times, international liaison with UK MoD, leading British and American defence prime contractors, other customers, sub-contractors, project teams and subject-matter experts - This is an opportunity to influence and shape the future direction of unmanned naval systems Key Responsibilities: - Work within a dynamic and fast moving team including specialists in acoustics, signal processing, electronic and mechanical engineering and other technical disciplines - Identify and develop cost effective technical solutions - Co-ordinate technology and system development activities - Support the team in ensuring that the overall technical requirements of each programme are being met, through requirements analysis and tracking, generation of interface and user documentation, planning and conduct of equipment test and trials, customer support and co-ordination of specialist design support activities such as safety and logistics support tasks - Produce concise, but comprehensive technical documentation including reports, proposals and short studies - Occasionally present to both internal and external customers An ideal Solar Engineer will hold the following skills and experiences: - You must be an experienced Design Engineer with expertise covering inboard and outboard aspects of towed array sonar equipment - Experience in low profile array technology is desirable - Should be qualified to first degree or equivalent standard and achieved or working towards Chartered Engineer status - You will have extensive background knowledge of towed array sonar equipment and acoustic sensing in general - Your ability to work as part of a team is paramount as is the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders - You must be able to demonstrate good communication skills, both written and oral, at all levels - You should hold a full UK Driving Licence and be willing to work offsite, including customer facilities and trials locations This job was originally posted as
