The Student Loans Company administers student funding on behalf of the Government and the devolved administrations Every year we process over one million applications and payout £7 billion in loans and grants to student studying in the UK. We are also responsible for tuition fee payments of around £7.5 billion to universities and colleges annually. We have 3 fantastic opportunities for driven and motivated individuals to join the SLC Planning & Policy team on a temporary basis for between 6 – 9 months. What does the role involve day to day? As a Policy Lead you will Support the Head of Planning and Policy and the Senior Policy Leads to shape and influence the near term and medium term policy agenda to strengthen and develop the SLC policy advisory role with Department for Education and the Devolved Administrations. What do you need to meet our job criteria to be considered for interview; Educated to degree level or equivalent I n depth knowledge of HE, FE and repayment policy and Regulations across all domiciles In depth and up to date knowledge of SLCs assess, pay and repay processes and associated systems Successfully managing complex external facing relationships with multiple stakeholders in a policy commissioning role Demonstrable experience in working in policy development and implementation within a project and programme environment High level of analysis skill with the ability to understand future policy intent and impact on SLC assess, pay and repay processes Ability to work in a flexible environment and adapt to new demand quickly, effectively and efficiently Ability to understand policy and commissioning requirements and clearly and succinctly articulate these to a wider audience, including any associated risks or challenges Strong communication ability with experience of applying well-developed networking, influencing and facilitation skills at both senior and peer levels, within and outwith the organisation Strong business writing skills with the ability to produce clear and concise documentation, even when the subject matter is particularly complex Demonstrable ability to understand and interpret complex legal documentation , e.g. Regulations Competent in use of IT systems and software including MS Office products Some of the benefits of working at SLC: 9am – 5.30pm working hours with 1 hour lunch break Central city centre location Great opportunities for career progression working for a large and complex organisation.
