Divisional Head of Quality – DS Smith Plastics Division Substantial Travel - can be based anywhere in Europe Highly competitive salary and package. DS Smith PLC is focused on the design and manufacture of recycled packaging for consumer goods. The company provides corrugated packaging solutions in Europe and plastic packaging solutions across the world, supported by paper and recycling operations, operates in 36 countries and employs about 26,000 people. The Group is highly acquisitive and is experiencing dramatic growth and change. The Plastics Division has a sales turnover in excess of £300m, has 30 sites in 16 countries and over 1700 employees. The Division operates in 4 sectors: flexible packaging and dispensing solutions, rigid packaging, returnables and foam products. Customers include Mercedes, Nissan, Seven11, McDonalds, Pepsi & Tesco. This is an exciting and challenging position for a highly motivated and energetic Quality Manager with strong operational process involvement who thrives on daily challenges, possesses true drive and determination and who enjoys working in a global, demanding and dynamic environment. This high-profile role will be critical to the future success of the Plastics Division. In this role you will be responsible for: Developing a standardised Operation Quality Process to be rolled out across the division Standardise the process for ensuring good product quality to provide our customers with zero defect products Create a divisional standard for achieving international Quality Certification under ISO or TS standard Work with the site leadership teams in each plant to drive forward quality mindset and processes: Train and embed a culture of problem solving that eliminates repeat failures Ensure correct product and process monitoring is in place to catch quality issues before they reach the customer Install a methodology for continually reducing waste and scrap Develop testing capability and knowledge Develop a supplier quality and supplier development program working with relevant instances in the division such as engineering, innovation, purchasing: Introduce specifications for suppliers to adhere to Introduce metrics and agreements to measure supplier performance Develop a supplier performance improvement platform in conjunction with business experts In this role you will play a key role in driving forward overall product quality and reduce waste across a global geography. Regular travel will be needed primarily within Europe and occasionally globally Personal Profile The ideal candidate will have a proven background in a similar role from an FMCG, manufacturing or other globally complex business. In particular the candidate must have experience of leading and delivering change with a strong operational process focus within international and geographically disparate teams. Knowledge and direct experience in automotive, electronics or pharmaceutical industries will be an advantage. Qualifications Profile Degree and/or post-graduate education from a top university/college or equivalent business experience. Extensive and relevant experience of leading and driving change within a similar environment. Ability to get hands on and work as part of the local management teams of your key businesses/sites is also important. Fluency in English is expected. A 2 nd European Language is highly desirable. Have a track record of driving quality improvements in an international and multi-cultural environment Have a track record in a dynamic, high growth, entrepreneurial environment with experience of rapid change and the confidence to drive the business forward. Work with all businesses in the division to develop a core team of quality experts to help develop, roll-out and embed the quality systems: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
