Contract Type
Senior Quantity Surveyor

Our client, an excellent local outfit who has seen marked growth over the last 2-3 years, requires a Senior Quantity Surveyor who has excellent tendering and negotiation skills along with being able to run a project from inception through to final accounts in order to assist them secure and deliver current and future projects.

The Job:

Based out of the head office in Maidenhead you would be responsible for the assisting at all stages. This means a solid understanding of both Pre and Post contract works are essential to ensure that you thrive in the position. The projects themselves are typically D&B high end residential developments located in and around Berks/Bucks however, they do pick up a variety of other schemes such as refurbishments of care homes and churches. They typically work on schemes up to £3m in value and as such you would not be required to spend your days full time on site, but you would get the variation of regular visits to the sites and a chance to meet all of the teams and see the projects.

The Company:

Year on year growth has seen them picking up more and more work and running at fairly impressive margins as well. They have a flat management structure that will see you reporting directly into the MD who has the autonomy to make decision as he chooses. What this means in a practical sense is that your input will be valued and will lead to real change in the business both strategically and at project level. A good example of this is the companies approach to benefits packages. If you already have a car and don't need one then they won't offer one, however if you currently have a company car and need on to get around then they are more than happy to go out and purchase one for you. It's a simple, common sense approach to working that makes them a good company to work for and keeps winning them repeat business.

How do you know if this is right for you?

If you are a Senior QS with experience at both ends of the project life cycle, with a particular focus on residential flats/apartment, then you should have the requisite skills to take on the position. However working at a small company is very different to one of the larger contractors. You will need to be adaptable as one day you may be helping out with the tenders and the next you will be out on site. Whilst variety is what makes the position demanding, it is also what keeps it interesting.

Essential skills:

- Excellent negotiation skills
- Detailed knowledge of the JCT form of Contract (D&B)
- Previous experience with working on residential schemes.
- Pre and Post Contract experience

Salary: Circa £70,000
