Role: Big Data Engineer Location: London, Canary Wharf Duration: 6 months Start Date: ASAP My Docklands based client is currently looking for an experienced Big Data Engineer to join them for an initial 6 month contract. The successful candidate will need to have: Good understanding of operating system internals, especially Linux, with a good knowledge of kernel fundamentals (i.e. scheduling, threads, protocol stack). Ability to communicate vision and ideas effectively to peers. Ability to work within a large enterprise cooperatively, to deliver to a specific business desire while enhancing the corporate environment as a whole. Intellectual capacity to break down a problem or situation into its component parts, identifying alternative solutions to solve, clearly identifying pros and cons of each, and making clear recommendations for the best alternative. Will provide expert support and advisory services as an engineering solutions provider for analysing platform-level configurations and performance issues. Define and promote standard operating procedures of systems engineering patters and solutions through thorough documentation and support of solutions Have proven ability to architect, implement, manage and support highly scalable and high performance Linux based architectures Have experience with various open source software and development tools is a plus Key Technical Skills: Programming - Python, Java, C,C++ Apache Hadoop - Mapreduce, Hive, Hbase, SPARK - in-depth hands-on experience with all big data ASF products/tools - Cloudera/Pivotal. Strong statistical/quantitative skills - cluster analysis, text mining, machine learning experience. Experience in Pandas, NLTK, Matplotlib, NumPy and R an advantage.
