PepsiCo is on the look-out for a Multi-Skilled Engineer to join our busy Skelmersdale manufacturing site.

The Skelmersdale plant is a key part of the Walkers portfolio producing a wide range of our Walkers snacks. The site opened in 2006 and is our newest site, there are lots of things we do well there but there's always room for improvement

The main purpose of this role is to assist in the development, production and documentation of control systems within an increasingly automated manufacturing environment. We are looking for a highly skilled technical professional who will combine their knowledge of Automation and Electrical Engineering principles to maintain, develop, troubleshoot and validate these systems. Principal Accountabilities:

- Acquiring a detailed understanding of all our automation systems (PLCs, SCADA etc.)
- Investigating and providing technical advice and managing the specification, development, installation and validation of current and future automation projects.
- Providing technical support on Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Process Control Systems and Automation, to effectively support operational activities and continuously improve their manufacturing performance.
- Assist site colleagues to ensure that technical expertise and automation knowledge is developed and maintained to the highest standards.
- Assist and optimize existing control systems
- Implement and conduct training programs for applicable support groups and assist the existing engineering technical group's development.
- Working on existing control platforms and getting involved in future projects to ensure all planning activities will be undertaken in a structured manner.
- Optimize and develop control strategies to ensure technical and production availability of automated systems.

What you'll need:

- HNC/HND preferred but relevant experience would be considered.
- Sound knowledge of Process Control techniques, ideally but not essentially within FMCG or food manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of control panels and MCC's including fault finding, repair and modification.
- A good working knowledge of various instrumentation including flow, level and pressure systems is preferable.
- PLC experience essential, especially Allen Bradley and Siemens S7.
- SCADA knowledge would be a bonus, particularly Wonderware.
- Maintenance or controls engineering background preferred.
- Experience of robotic control systems particularly Elau and Rexroth.
- Good Knowledge in PLC Programming, Machine Safety, Robot programming.
- An understanding of software packages used within the manufacturing process, particularly SQL, VBA, would also be advantageous but not essential.
- Good knowledge Computer and IT Systems.
- Experience in project management.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to relate to people, to be outgoing and form relationships quickly.
- Good time management skills required and adherence to schedule are also important as working to tight time scales may be required at times.
