Vantage Consulting are currently on the lookout for a Chartered Civil/Structural Design Engineer to provide support to the Civil Design Manager in the design of a wide range of civil, structural and environmental engineering projects within the power industry.

The successful candidate shall be responsible for compliance with all relevant technical standards and that the delivery of all the specified project outcomes are on time, within budget and to the quality required.

What will this role involve?

- Implement the project requirements to fully meet the client specification in accordance with relevant standards
- Be confident to work under minimum supervision and competent to check the work of others and supervise less experienced or junior staff
- Understanding of UK Specifications, Eurocodes and Client specifications
- Creating Project Design Intent Documents and Project Specific Design Risk Assessments with an understanding of CDM Regulations and Health and Safety Legislation.
- Design bunds, foundations, roads and drainage systems etc.
- Design earthworks
- Design portal / traditional industrial buildings
- Reinforcement detailing and schedules
- Prepare/check design approach, calculations, drawings and documents
- Prepare/check temporary works design, calculations, drawings and documents
- Carry out independent design check for civil design done by others
- Coordinate the Civil Design with other disciplines and departments
- Interfacing with site personnel for the construction/installation works and resolving issues
- Providing Engineering Support for Tenders to foresee design problems and to ensure budgets and project programmes are accurate
- Reviewing designs and making recommendations
- Liaise with clients and contractors as appropriate
- Attending technical meetings with clients and subcontractors
- Carry out site visits and surveys, inspections and supervise sub-contractors
- Prepare and check feasibility studies, inspection, assessment and technical reports and other written documents in an appropriate format ensuring compliance with Amey procedures
- Keep up to date with industry best practice and where appropriate apply best practice within the team environment

What are we looking for?

- The candidate should be a Chartered CEng through ICE or IStructE
- Be fully conversant with the design of concrete, steel, timber and masonry design codes with a minimum 7 years post graduation experience.
- Degree qualified in a relevant Civil/Structural discipline
- Computer literate and conversant with MS Office suite and relevant engineering software packages such as AutoCAD, Tedds and SFrame
- Demonstrable experience in the civil and/or building arena
- Good communication skills and the ability to work within a small team and have a dedicated approach to working within and meeting strict deadlines
- Good communication skills dealing with clients, developers, consultants, elected representatives and the public
- Client focused approach to service delivery
- CDM awareness
- IOSH managing safety
- IOSH working safely
- Environmental awareness Tool Box talk
- Environmental awareness for managers
- Experience in high voltage electrical substations would be an asset butisnot essentialsince trainingwillbe given
