About the course

Our accredited Vocational courses cover the full spectrum of trades and run for 2 days over a full academic year. All prospective candidates will be subject to interview and assessment of their academic ability and will be expected to be keen and committed to pursuing a career in their chosen trade. All our level 1 & 2 courses are suitable for those who have little to no prior knowledge of the trade but think they might wish to pursue a career in that field.

Purchase of appropriate protective clothing and industry safety footwear is a requirement of the course.

Note: All Level 3 courses are supported by ‘Advanced Learning Loan’.

CITB/Cskills Level 3 Diploma in Bricklaying

Description
The Level 3 Diploma in Bricklaying qualification has been developed for delivery in a training environment; this means that you do not need to be employed to study this qualification. It has been designed to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding so you can work in Bricklaying in the construction industry or progress to further training.

This qualification supports the Learner to attain enabling, fundamental and transferable practical skills with associated underpinning knowledge.

The learner will cover knowledge in three core subject areas:
– Health, safety and welfare
– Technical information, quantities and communication
– Construction industry and built environment

The Learner will also learn key practical skills and knowledge in:
– Construct chimneys and fireplace structures
– Construct complex masonry structures
– Construct decorative features

Entry Requirements
As a guide, learners should be able to work at a level equivalent to GCSE Mathematics and English at Grades A-D. All learners must pass an assessment test as part of an interview, and will have already achieved a Foundation Construction Award or City & Guilds 6217 prior to joining this course, or be able to demonstrate considerable experience in bricklaying skills. To successfully complete the full qualification it is necessary for you to achieve 90% attendance.

Course Structure
This is a vocational course which involves both practical and theory/background knowledge elements, covering the following subject areas/units:

Content/Units
You will study a number of units, including:-
carrying out safe working practices in construction; information, quantities and communicating with others; building methods and construction technology; interpreting working drawings to set out masonry structures; thin joint masonry and masonry cladding; building solid walling, isolated and attached piers; building cavity walling and forming masonry structures.

Costs and Payment Terms
All students pay a non-refundable Administration Fee of £10.00 regardless of status. The course fee is £4,950.00, plus Admin fee. Equipment and materials are provided free of charge, however, should you wish to pursue your Learning in more depth, you may be advised to purchase one or more text books from a recommended reading list.

Fee Waiver
Tuition is free* for learners aged 16-18, and for adults who are in receipt of eligible means tested benefits, provided that satisfactory documentary evidence is provided from the Job Centre, dated within one month of enrolment, except for a £10 *administration charge. If you are looking to enrol on Level 2 qualification and you possess less than 5 GCSE’s (grades A-C), and no other full Level 2 qualification, you may be entitled to full fee remission. For those not eligible for free tuition (details available upon request), our fees are very competitive and we offer a flexible installment plan to enable you to make payments over the duration of your course.

Assessment and Achievement
You will be required to complete a number of formal practical assessments, knowledge tests, an on-line computer based multiple choice test (GOLA), and compile a portfolio of work as you go along. Assessment is continuous throughout the duration of the course.
All elements must be successfully achieved in order to gain full certification.
