Kettlethorpe High School

About Kettlethorpe High School

Kettlethorpe High School continues to be a great place to be.  Results year on year have continued to improve and we are able to hold our own against others in relation to examination performance success.

Schools though are much more than examinations and our extra-curricular offer and wider life experiences impact on all our pupils and really do ensure pupils have a challenging, exciting and enjoyable school experience.  This is something the school is really proud of.

For any family the primary concern for choosing a high school will be centred around pupil enjoyment and safety.  Within our learning community it matters to us that all pupils feel safe, as they go about their business, and this has been endorsed by Ofsted.

Our school is popular and whilst we do not reach maximum intake (320) each year we do take around a quarter of pupils from schools across the district, as well as from the Barnsley and Kirklees areas.

As part of the transition from primary school, the school holds an Open Evening for Year 6 pupils and follows this up with visits over Year 6 and a number of induction days.  Our Open Evening for the September 2014 start will be held on Thursday 26th September 2013, 4pm-8pm.  As a school we firmly believe parents/carers should be able to see the school in session during a normal day.  Please contact the school if you would like to visit during the day.

The school had a very positive Ofsted inspection in September 2011 and was described as, ‘a good and rapidly improving school’.  Additional observations included:

  • ‘Outstanding care, guidance and support ensure that pupils believe they are exceptionally safe in school.’
  • ‘In the words of pupils in all years, we are a family here and we look after each other.’
  • Parents/carers agree and comment, ‘our children are known as individuals; staff are caring, encouraging and sensitive to their needs.’
  • In the Ofsted letter to pupils: ‘Your school is led and managed exceptionally well and makes sure Kettlethorpe High School is a close knit community.’

We very much look forward to showing you what our school has to offer your family.
