Applications are invited from graduates (or students expecting to graduate in the summer of 2018) who wish to undertake full-time postgraduate research study in one of our Priority Research Areas, commencing in October 2018. Support is available for a three year period of research leading to a PhD qualification at a University in the United Kingdom (UK) or Republic of Ireland (ROI). Applicants must be residents of Northern Ireland (NI) to be eligible for a full studentship. However, those who do not meet the ordinary residence rules may be eligible for a fees-only award if they are resident within the European Union (EU).

The Department has identified Priority Research Areas for our Postgraduate Studentships for 2018. These are available on our website or by hard copy if you contact us at or on 028 9052 4710. Details of priority research needs identified for each area are also available. In order to be eligible for a DAERA Postgraduate Studentship, you must select which one of our Priority Research Areas 2018 your research proposal is aligned to.
