JOB TITLE: Agricultural Sales Professional

SALARY & BENEFITS: Starting salary of £23k but will depend on experience + plus performance-related rewards (with salary review after 12 months)  

WORKING HOURS: 40 hours per week

THE COMPANY: The Smartlist are recruiting for a sales position on behalf of an ambitious family-run business, based in the Lancashire countryside Barton, near Preston.

With a strong reputation for delivering innovative products to farmers over the last twenty years, their products are based on natural and waste-reduction principles in contrast to chemical approaches often seen in agriculture. The company is very customer-centred and see themselves ‘on the side’ of farmers and the land/animals they serve.

The company has just entered a new chapter that has seen them set up and operate their own paper drying facility with the purpose of manufacturing their paper-based animal bedding product. In line with their principles, this is a sustainable operation involving a 1.2MW biomass boiler linked to a state-of-the-art belt dryer sited among Forest of Bowland farmland.

The company management style is to guide, support and encourage rather than micro-manage. To thrive in this environment, workmates need to be self-motivated and enthused, with a great work ethic. Everyone is expected to take personal responsibility for their area of work. Collaboration and co-operation among workmates is paramount.

THE ROLE: This Agricultural Sales Professional will be part-office and part-field based and will be responsible for growing the market in Lancashire and the surrounding areas in order to stimulate demand for the increased supply from the new production facility.

Key Responsibilities of the Agricultural Sales Professional based in Barton, near Preston to include:-

Use the CRM database to retain existing business and turn prospects into customers
Organise own time to achieve the most number of meaningful calls with prospects/ existing customers
Assist with the promoting the Lancashire production facility to customers
Communicate effectively with the Operations team (both office-based and production site) to ensure sales are balanced with production
Update/ upkeep records
Contribute to a strong customer-centric culture in pursuit of collective sales team expectations
Participate actively in sales meetings and teleconferences
Work to deadlines
Enhance the company's good name with everyone

THE CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate will live within a commutable distance of Barton near Preston and have a full driving licence. In addition to work ethic, motivation, enthusiasm and approachability, you will have experience in both face-to-face and telesales ability, as both will be required on a weekly basis. Ideally the successful Agricultural Sales Professional will have an interest in farming and be enthused about delivering genuinely innovative products to the market. Finally, you should be willing to learn and get ‘stuck in’ with a participative team at the company.
