In the late eighteenth century Central Park was a private deer park. It was purchased for public use in 1919, and is now one of the focal points of the town where many people and families enjoy the open space. We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our Street Scene team working primarily within Central Park.
The successful candidate will require a knowledge of play equipment maintenance and an awareness of health and safety legislation including arboricultural practices as the role involves undertaking grounds maintenance tasks such as grass cutting, shrub and rose bed maintenance, hedge maintenance, floral scheme maintenance as well as maintenance of the park's play areas and sports grounds. A level 2 diploma or equivalent in horticulture, landscaping or arboriculture is essential alongside basic mechanical/ engineering ability to undertake minor repairs/ installations to equipment such as play apparatus.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, conscientious and self motivated individual with good organisational skills and the ability to plan and prioritise without direct supervision. You will be required to provide a warden service and security for the Park ensuring that the facilities are used appropriately and incidents within the park are reported.
Candidates must have good interpersonal skills and ability to lead a small team, ensuring all day to day operations are carried out to a high standard.
Applicants for the position must hold a valid drivers licence including parts B+E and have a flexible approach to working hours.
