JOB TITLE: Commercial Finance Accountant
PACKAGE:£28K + CAR or Car allowance, Excellent Pension, Heath Care, Plus corporate benefits package. 

Main Purpose:
To provide financial & management accounting advice and support to the company’s Southern divisions as required, with particular emphasis on end-to-end project financial evaluation, reporting and review. The successful candidate will be an important member of the Matrix finance team.

  Job Accountabilities:
  • Support to the regional managers:
    • Assist/Support month end process, creation of WIP document, WIP reviews, overhead analysis and any other duties that form part of the month end financial process
    • Review of financial performance, including comparison to budget and preparation/discussion of variance commentaries
    • Review and support of monthly revenue forecast identifying and challenging any risk,  deterioration or delays within invoicing expectations
    • Review and support sales management system, challenge inconstancies, understated opportunities and review any trends that may cause future risk to regions
    • Produce, support and analyse monthly management reporting pack for senior management, month reviews to discuss/outline any risk and opportunities within the regions
    • Determining appropriate accounting treatment for all new work
    • Provide support and advise on the budgeting process to provide cost accuracy and detail on expected performance targets
    • Ad-hoc finance support & analysis to regions as and when required
  • Support to the project managers:
    • To ensure budgets, costs to complete etc. are up to date on all jobs, i.e. giving comfort that the monthly evaluation of WIP is accurate
    • Early warning of issues (i.e. variances from budget) and support with actions to address
  • Support to the credit control team on all Southern works, identify & investigate any concerns with bad debt/aged applications
  • Ad-hoc support to the Finance team

Specific Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Basic management accounting procedures – budgeting, variance analysis, forecasting, journal processing
  • Contract accounting processes – work in progress valuation and calculation, contract costing
  • Contract monitoring – cost to complete calculations and validation
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, attention to detail with the ability to interoperate data clearly and concisely
  • Microsoft Excel – intermediate / advanced user
  • Experience of using office IT/accounting systems – ideally Access Dimensions
  • Strong work ethic and enthusiasm to deliver results and looking for career progression
  • Time management – good planning skills
  • Self-motivated team player
  • Strong inter-personal skills – a customer focussed person with a positive attitude
  • Excellent relationship builder – able to influence across a broad range of finance and non-finance stakeholders
  • Qualifications – CIMA Part qualified and studying towards full qualification within the next 2 years
  • Travel across southern regions at key points in the month end timetable with regular overnight stays, possibility of international travel depending on key contract wins.
