Southend-on-Sea Borough Council in partnership with Thurrock Council and Essex County Council has won Department for Transport funding to promote active travel across South Essex from 2017 to 2020. Active travel includes walking, cycling and public transport and Southend Borough Council are excited to be the lead authority on this new programme that encourages sustainable transport choices. This vacancy is being offered on a full time basis for 37 hours per week on a Fixed Term Contract until March 2020. Please read on for further information about this post. The primary aim of the Travel Engagement Officer is to work alongside the Travel Engagement Team to promote sustainable transport choices through the development and delivery of targeted active travel promotional activity. You will advise on personalised travel planning services and other relevant events or activities targeted predominantly in businesses across South Essex. You will also be expected to assist in the delivery of sustainable transport initiatives through the South Essex Active Travel programme, this will include delivering cycle training as a fully accredited cycle instructor. Southend Borough Council is effectively recruiting a “cheerleader” for sustainable transport - someone who is very passionate in this field and committed to the concept of sustainable travel. It will support your application if you have knowledge of active travel concepts and of local businesses and enterprise networks and services. You must have experience of working with the public and have effective communication skills. In order to transport equipment to various events, a full driving licence is essential.
