Head of Scotland Office
£58,858 to £80,613 + Benefits
This is a rare, high profile role with a difference. Acting as the voice of the General Medical Council (GMC) in Scotland, you’ll have the opportunity to influence Scottish healthcare quality and safety and help drive an ambitious agenda to protect patients by supporting doctors and the wider system in which they train and work. Leading a small yet experienced, well-established team, you’ll also proactively collaborate with GMC teams across the UK.
The GMC helps to protect patients and improve medical education and practice in the UK by setting standards for students and doctors. We support them in achieving (and exceeding) those standards, and take action when they are not met.
We’re looking for a talented and credible leader with senior leadership, policy, external affairs and stakeholder management experience, preferably in Scottish healthcare, to lead our office in Scotland. Reporting to the Assistant Director for External Affairs and Engagement, we’ll provide you with the support and autonomy to work independently, grow our reputation and build even stronger links with the nation’s medical profession, patients, medical schools, post-graduate education system, employers and politicians.
A strategic thinker and inspirational leader who can work credibly with senior colleagues internally and externally, you must have a good understanding of the Scottish political, healthcare and policy landscape. You should also be a superb organiser with an analytical mind and experience of driving improvements, building high level relationships and empowering teams to deliver. Able to manage a variety of exciting projects, you’ll need the flexibility to adapt to ever-changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Your role will oversee the implementation of our Corporate Strategy in and for Scotland by helping your growing team to develop, flourish and perform at their best. You’ll also need to embody our corporate values at all times. We are committed to making a difference for doctors and patients in Scotland by working together fairly, supporting each other and nurturing creative development. And we enjoy what we do.
If you’re innovative, highly motivated and share our passion for continually improving patient care in Scotland and across the UK, we’d like to hear from you.
In return, you’ll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people. We offer an attractive salary and benefits package.
