Take your career to the next level and use your technical knowledge and experience to make a real impact.
Wessex Water is one of the top performing water and sewerage companies in the UK, serving 2.8 million customers across the south west of England. It is part of the Wessex Water Group, which comprises a number of other companies alongside our regulated business, including capital works project delivery, property development and waste management and renewable energy services. Our engineering and construction division is a multi-disciplinary design and construct contractor, responsible for the delivery of an annual programme of water treatment, wastewater and network projects across the Wessex Water region.
The refurbishment of our Durleigh water treatment centre is engineering and construction's flagship treatment scheme in AMP7. Reporting to the delivery manager, you will have responsibility for the delivery of the Durleigh sub-programme of work (c??50m). With a number of direct reports this role will require the management of a multi-disciplinary project delivery team, including design consultants, internal civils and M+E resources, as well as the external supply chain and stakeholders. As a project manager, you will be managing the delivery of the project to achieve the required outputs for safety, the environment, time, quality and cost. You'll also be doing this while attaining the high standards of work we are renowned for. You'll be negotiating contracts to deliver the best value across the business to achieve the most cost-effective and sustainable solutions possible while managing and balancing risk throughout. Additionally, you will be reporting at a senior level.
Key to the success of the project will be the emphasis on digital delivery to BIM Level 2. The project has already invested in new technology and innovation and you will continue to promote this approach as well as bringing new ideas to assist with project delivery.
You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with safety and quality procedures, while considering legal, contractual and governance obligations and budgetary boundaries. As part of this you'll undertake the legally defined role of principal designer within health and safety legislation. As the face of the project, you will be dealing with a wide range of stakeholders including residents, customers, contractors and the general public and you will be expected to act as an ambassador for the organisation at all times.
You will have a relevant degree or equivalent experience and ideally will be professionally qualified. You will have water industry experience as well as being able to demonstrate construction management and office-based management experience. The role may suit individuals looking for their next step up or those seeking experience of more complex projects.
To fulfil the role of principal designer, you'll need a working knowledge of the H&S at Work Act 1974, Workplace (Health and Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, RIDDOR regulations 1995 and CDM Regulations 2015. You will also have the necessary health and safety training, including Safe Systems of Work, bespoke CDM training, CITB 5day, and IOSH or Nebosh.
Complementing your technical skills, your well-honed organisational and decision-making skills will enable you to drive the project forward. You'll be a positive and effective people manager, who is able to motivate your team to achieve project outcomes. We have a range of internal and external stakeholders so we'll expect you to demonstrate well-developed communication and influencing abilities too.
In return, we offer a range of benefits including:
• Defined contribution pension scheme.
• 24 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
• Life insurance.
• Cycle2Work scheme.
• Tax-free childcare government scheme.
• Paid volunteering leave.
• Discounts and cashback scheme from more than 1,200 high street and online suppliers.
Please remember you must be able to prove your eligibility to work in the UK and provide evidence of qualifications gained. All offers of employment will be subject to a Basic Disclosure Criminal Records check.
We're happy to talk flexible working - in association with Working Families
