Assistant Librarian
Reference number: A0500519 - Assistant Librarian
Location: Sandy, Bedfordshire

Salary starting at: £19,602 to £21,236 per annum pro rata
Hours: Part time, 17.5 hours per week
Contract: Permanent

Alongside the Librarian you will be responsible for providing a modern library and information service to the RSPB by selecting and managing a wide range of relevant resources and enabling users to easily find the information they need.

You will be comfortable managing the service and working independently, as well as being an active member of the Knowledge and Information team. We are seeking someone who has enthusiasm for library and information work, and who is keen to innovate and make decisions about the way the library should develop. You will have excellent customer service and communication skills to help colleagues face-to-face, on the phone and via email.

There are frequent opportunities to contribute to organisation wide initiatives in Information Management, Records Management and work with RSPB Archives. You will work closely with RSPB Conservation staff based across the UK. This is a varied role with tasks ranging from budget and collection management, detailed research work and providing guidance to staff in the best ways to find information, inter-library loans when required, and finally being an in-house expert in academic publishing and copyright issues.

You should have a qualification in Librarianship and/or Information Management, although we are willing to consider applications from those currently working towards a qualification if you have significant relevant experience. An interest in nature conservation, wildlife and the aims of the RSPB would be an advantage.

The preferred working pattern for this role will include Mondays and Fridays - with 6 hours per day and one further day of 5.5 hours to be agreed. There may be some additional flexibility in these working patterns to suit the right candidate.
