Assistant Project Accountant


Assistant Project Accountant needed for a multinational financial organisation based in London who are looking to employ an experienced Assistant Project Accountant with a knowledge of supporting organisations with project related accounting.

What the role entails:

Some of the main duties of the Assistant Project Accountant will include:

  • Month end duties include preparing and posting journals; balance sheet reconciliations, raising commercial invoices and maintaining project models with accurate data
  • Ensure robust financial controls are in place, including debtor management, and checking all purchasing is in line with company policy and procedure
  • Active involvement in process improvement initiatives within the Finance team
  • Providing cover for other Finance team members where necessary
  • Supporting the Project Accountant and Project Finance Manager during month end, year-end audit, budgeting process, quarterly review preparation, pricing and grant submissions and ad hoc as required
  • Finance Lead and Business Partner on small projects, responsible for working with Project Managers on project forecasting, reporting, analysis, monitoring against budget, revenue recognition and profit/cost management
  • Supporting the business with project or timesheet related queries

What you need to be the successful Assistant Project Accountant:

In order to be the successful Assistant Project Accountant and have a chance to gain such an exciting opportunity you will ideally need to have the following:

  • Part Qualified accountant (ACCA)
  • Project Accounting experience or business-facing management accounting role is essential
  • Experience within a professional services organisation is desirable
  • Experience in a grant-funded organisation would be beneficial
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately, with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise work with limited supervision
  • A strong work ethic
  • A good team player, reliable, and able to quickly establish credibility and build rapport and trust with excellent oral and written communication skills, with a proven ability to engage constructively with colleagues at all levels across different departments to deliver objectives
  • Excellent IT Skills, with a minimum intermediate competency level of Excel
  • Keen interest in continuous process improvement
  • Basic understanding of revenue recognition accounting standards
  • Sound knowledge of VAT legislation and application is desirable
