The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7.

The salary range will be £32,236 to £39,609 per annum, exclusive of London Allowance.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Safety and Programme Support Officer to join the Department of Space and Climate Physics. The role will specialise in overseeing Health and Safety within the Department, both at the main site in Holmbury St Mary and at the departmental offices in London. The appointee will monitor and facilitate safe working practices across all of the department’s facilities. The appointee will also provide administrative and financial support to the department’s facilities and its research programme.

The Mullard Space Science Laboratory is located on its own campus in the beautiful Surrey Hills, surrounded by woodland. MSSL is the UK's largest university space research group. Space science is a discipline that demands highly innovative technologies and MSSL has an international reputation for excellence in this area. UCL was one of the first universities in the world to become involved in making scientific observations in space. Since MSSL was established in 1966, we have participated in over 40 satellite missions with the European Space Agency, NASA (US), Japan, Russia, China and India, and flown over 230 rocket experiments.

The successful candidate will be required to be educated to a degree level in a science or engineering subject or equivalent technical qualification and hold or be willing to undertake NEBOSH (National General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety certificate) certificate. They should also have experience of operational health and safety management in a research environment and a proven record of successful laboratory/facilities management.  An understanding of managing budgets, and strong analytical and organisational skills are also essential requirements.
