JOB TITLE: Trainee Life Safety Systems Engineer (Electrical)

LOCATION: Based from home. Swindon or surrounding areas *

* Predominantly South of England / M4 Corridor, though some training & works may require further UK travel, including occasional working away from home. All travel, hotel and subsistence costs are met by the company

WORKING HOURS: Full Time - 37.5 Hour basic week (Monday to Friday) - Regular overtime and weekend working opportunities provided

Due to continued growth, they are looking to expand their existing team with the addition of a highly motivated and career minded individual to train in life safety systems engineering, Based from home.

THE ROLE: This appointment will be based from home and offers the successful candidate the opportunity to travel around the UK developing their technical and process skills with training on a wide range of life safety systems and equipment types installed within our blue chip customer sites.
Initially, the role comprises a 12 week ‘on the job’ foundation training period, where the more basic technical and statutory requirements in servicing, repair, installation, commissioning and project engineering life safety systems, including fire alarms, voice alarms, fire extinguishers, refuge & call systems will be covered.
Subject to individual assessment, we will then determine which route the successful applicant should follow in terms of specialising in a role, with options as below

a) Preventative Maintenance Engineer
b) Technical Support Engineer
c) Commissioning Engineer
d) Projects Engineer

Supplementary industry recognised external training will then be provided and tailored to the individual needs of the successful candidate, based upon their chosen role

Key Responsibilities:
  • To work fully supervised learning how to deliver various life safety system engineering
  • works as directed by the office and field management team in accordance with industry
  • standards and company procedures
  • To complete electronic reporting in accordance with Company procedures
  • To improve personal work skills through theoretical and practical in field and external
  • industry regulated training, with a view to progressing toward a specific engineering role
  • To always present and conduct oneself appropriately given the nature and importance of our clients

THE CANDIDATE:

The successful candidate will have a technical mind with the desire and drive to progress within the fire protection industry. You will have excellent communication skills and have the ability to work well as part of a team. No experience is required but would be preferred.

A comprehensive package of training is provided and tailored to the individual needs of the successful candidate, based upon their previous experience and qualifications.
Key skills and experience:-
  • You must hold a full driving licence suitable for UK use, a maximum of 3 penalty points
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel & emails
  • Enthusiastic and proactive with a flexible approach
  • Willingness and drive to succeed in further progress within your career
  • A general interest in electrical/electronic engineering
  • Fluent in English, ideally as a first language
  • Highly motivated
  • A fluent and confident communicator, both verbally and in writing

Desirable Criteria:
  • Grade C GCSE or above equivalent in Maths, English and any technical related subject
  • City & Guilds 231 Electrical Parts 1 & 2 / IEEE 17th Edition / ONC in Electronic
  • Engineering or equivalent
  • Any previous knowledge or understanding of life safety equipment, such as fire alarms,
  • emergency lighting, voice alarms, fire extinguishers
  • Previous experience of writing any Word or Excel documents with high attention to detail and accuracy

A supplementary industry recognised external training package will also be provided and tailored to the individual needs of the successful candidate, based upon their previous experience, qualifications and skills.
