Vacancy: Engineering Manager Location: Royston
Job Family_ Engineering.
Based within the Capital Proje cts team, within the Johnson Matthey Battery Materials (JMBM) business unit, the Engineering Manager will report to the Engineering and Technical Services Manager. The Engineering Manager will act as the focal point between capex projects and the engineering function to ensure business strategy is underpinned by engineering expertise and is delivered appropriately to the project management teams. Responsible for the definition, implementation and review of best practice processes and performance; managing stakeholders to agree objectives and schedules.

Key responsibilities
  • Ownership of all Engineering input into Capex projects, consistent with agreed business case / scope
  • Be the Engineering team representative within the CAPEX organisation
  • Represent the Engineering function in project governance meetings, providing leadership on governance, risk and change management
  • Key input to project phases in support of the project management team on a matrix based multi-discipline engineering team
  • Work with project managers and stakeholders (respectively PM's) to manage the allocation of engineering team members to Capex projects under a matrix organisation
  • Align team goals and individual deliverables with the PM's of multiple projects ensuring deliverability
  • Reviews and formally signs off on formal documentation relating to JMBM Projects on behalf of Engineering team
  • Engage in planning activities and RACI definition for individual projects
  • Co-ordinate and direct engineering, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and integration of technical/ project management activities
  • Ensure the engineering team work to best practice processes and procedures; in line with strategic models
  • Manage & control interfaces with consultants and contractors to safely deliver on time and to budget
  • Identification of risks and issues which may affect schedule, budget or quality.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance
  • Support the Engineering and Technical Services Manager in prioritising engineering projects
  • Interface daily with site operations and technical services to provide engineering assistance and/or resources for troubleshooting plant problems and evaluating process-oriented change requests, in connection and with approval of the related project manager/director

  • Proven Engineering Management background
  • Chartered Engineering status
  • Strong knowledge of engineering disciplines
  • Demonstrated experience of stakeholder management
