As someone that's already in a people management role, you're looking for a rewarding career where your talents can shine and progression is on the cards via our Team Leader Development Programme.
If you're looking for a working environment that's always on the go where no two days are the same and you thrive in a customer facing role then this is the opportunity for you!
What you'll do
As a Team Leader at our Cambridge Motorway Services store, you'll be responsible for supervising a customer-focused team. Customers to these stores may be in the middle of a long cross-country journey and need some time away from the wheel. Alternatively, they could be undertaking a shorter journey and want to get it done as soon as possible, only rushing in for a few minutes. Whatever the reason for their visit, it's up to you to lead by example in making the customer experience as enjoyable as possible. You'll take on the day-to-day management of the team - recruiting, motivating, assigning work and training them to ensure we hit our targets - it's no mean feat. And if the Store Manager isn't in at any point, you'll be expected to step right up. They'll also look to you and your on-the-floor experience, to make profit-increasing recommendations that will enhance the customer experience.
What's in it for you
We're a company that values its people and we're always on the lookout for new rising stars to work in our Motorway Services stores. We'll give you all the help and training you need, including the support of our Retail Academy, to make your ambition a reality and fulfil your management potential. We offer a range of shifts to suit all sorts of lifestyles and given our location, it will offer a great community environment. You'll also get some excellent benefits, including up to 50% discount in our High Street stores, flexible working and other great third party offers!
Who we're looking for
You already have supervisory or assistant manager experience. It's likely to be in retail, but we're open to anyone who's worked in a fast-moving, customer-focused environment where they're used to thinking on their feet, such as hospitality. Due to location not being supported by local transport, you will need to have alternative transport options. Most important, however, is your entrepreneurial spirit. As a leader of a store you'll need to be hands-on, target driven and fuelled by ideas (which is great in a company where we turn our people's business ideas into reality). It's the ideal role in which to use your people management and organisational skills to their fullest potential. And should you wish to progress, you'll find nothing makes us happier - we'll support you however we can!
You may know we operate on the high street, in rail and bus stations, hospitals, universities, workplaces, and - of course airports. But you may be surprised to learn we've been around since 1792 and have 14,000 people working with us globally. We're continually growing by putting our customers at the heart of all we do. So, at WHSmith we offer careers with No Limits!
