We have an exciting new opportunity for a BioCatalysis Researcher to join out Life Science Technologies (LST) department based in our state-of-the-art laboratories in Cambridge. This role is responsible for conducting research on the application of biocatalysis aiming at implementing biocatalysts in the synthesis of APIs and other fine chemicals.
Demonstrating awareness of EHS through actively promoting the JM safety culture
Testing and evaluating enzymes, integrating them in biocatalytic processes, and applying the standard techniques of synthetic organic chemistry
Providing support to projects for customers, internal R&D biocatalytic projects and biocatalysis development and production
Conducting work requiring independent judgement in the evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard techniques, processes and criteria relating to the development and application of biocatalysis
Devising new approaches to problems encountered, working within conventional practices, but incorporating complex features, with guidance from the Team Leader
Applying and optimising analytical methods using HPLC, GC, LCMS, GCMS and NMR, seeking help from the analytical team where appropriate
Writing detailed technical reports to be submitted to Team Leader for approval
Presenting results to internal and external customers, with supervision from the Team Leader
To carry out any other duties which are within the employee's skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed
Are you the ideal candidate?
PhD in Chemistry or Biochemistry or degree level qualification with equivalent experience
Experience in catalysis
Proficient in using chromatographic equipment such as HPLC/UPLC/GC
High attention-to-detail and work standards with the ability to proactively and independently manage the workload
Results driven with strong problem-solving capabilities
Effective communication skills with the ability to present work in meetings
Proficient in the use of IT programmes such as Microsoft office applications and Chemdraw
