My client, a multidisciplinary consultancy, are seeking a qualified legal professional, with experience in dealing with performance/breach of contract claims against design professionals and other construction service providers. The successful applicant will work within the legal team supporting and liaising closely with the commercial management and relevant Studio teams to investigate and prepare detailed assessments of potential and on-going claims, managing disclosure processes and liaising with external counsel and insurers.

Conducting detailed project reviews with support from the wider project team, to identify relevant information vis-a-vis contractual obligations, and manage and coordinate the legal advice against potential and on-going claims
Apply robust and methodical analytical skills to investigate past service delivery against contractual, tortious and professional obligations.
Assess and interpret contractual obligations.
Reviewing and identifying potential risks in design service delivery, and handling and managing performance breach claims on major projects
Preparing both high-level summaries and detailed reports, on current claims activities and ability to present these both clearly and concisely
Demonstrate strong awareness of up to date construction contract law and related legal process.
Manage and drive forward complex claims management processes.

Qualities & skills required

Able to demonstrate ability and experience to effectively undertake the above responsibilities
Strong commercial sense, pragmatism, organisational skills and resilience to cope with conflicting demands and tight deadlines without losing the requisite attention to detail. Able to prioritise duties and work under pressure while remaining calm and professional at all times.
Experience of Dispute Management, Dispute Avoidance and Dispute Resolution including adjudication, mediation, arbitration and civil litigation
Experience in a variety construction sectors and project types and international disputes
Expertise and in-depth knowledge of conducting and completing highly complex case reviews
Exceptional drafting and negotiating skills with the ability to draft and negotiate both bespoke and industry standard agreements

Qualifications and Competence Requirements

University degree or other qualification in construction discipline such as architecture/engineering/construction project management an advantage but not essential
Qualified legal professional with at least 3 years PQE, strong academics and experience working in contentious construction gained either in Private Practice or In-house (or preferably both). However, other candidates will be considered if they can demonstrate comparable experience.
