Senior or Principal Engineers - Power Engineering

Would you like to play a key role in delivering Submarines programmes for the UK Royal Navy? We currently have vacancies for Senior or Principal Engineers - Power Engineering at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Senior or Principal Engineer - Power Engineering, you will be supporting our ongoing Submarine programmes throughout the design phases of the engineering lifecycle, ensuring that we deliver an effective Royal Navy capability and a platform that ensures the safety of its crew.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior or Principal Engineer - Power Engineering will involve:

Undertaking functional design, providing specialist advice and producing evidence in support of legislative, safety and technical requirements

Liaising with internal and external customers as part of a technical team

Undertaking peer reviews

Articulating and presenting technical arguments, clearly, logically and simply

Executing, evaluating, delivering and managing complex engineering and/or cross functional tasks/ programmes of work recognising stakeholder and customer requirements

Identifying and implementing opportunities for personal and team development to ensure that professional capability of the business and individual are maintained and improved

Your skills and qualifications as a Senior or Principal Engineer - Power Engineering:

Essential:

Degree or equivalent qualification or experience in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)

Demonstrable experience of engineering system design in any of the technical specialities listed below:

Electrical generators

High voltage switchgear

Power system protection

Power electronics

Experience in Power system modelling and analysis using Matlab and Simulink

Desirable:

Chartered Engineer status or willingness to achieve

Background in Marine/Maritime engineering

At the same time, you will have excellent communication skills and be able to work collaboratively with the wider team when required, managing both internal and external stakeholders. The ability to proactively problem-solve is key to the success of this role.
