Ruby on Rails Developer

The Money and Pensions Service vision is everyone making the most of their money and pensions. This new organisation brings together the free services delivered by the Money Advice Service, The Pensions Advisory Service and Pension Wise.

We are an Arms-Length organisation, sponsored by the Department for Work and Pensions, with a joint commitment to ensuring that people have access and guidance to the information they need to make effective financial decisions over their lifetime.

The organisation will also engage with HM Treasury, which is responsible for policy on financial capability and debt advice. Working hand-in-hand with stakeholders throughout the UK, the Money and Pensions Service will ensure that money and pensions guidance is available to those that need it, adapting to people's changing needs throughout their lives.

Key Accountabilities

The ideal candidate will be responsible for Back End development, across several of our platforms.
Promotes best practice and drives knowledge sharing across teams.
Constantly seeks to dig deeper, understand problems and find solutions by offering unique/lateral points of view and be self-motivated.
Strong problem solver with excellent coding ability.
Excellent attention to detail, strong prioritisation skills and senior-level communication skills.
Knowledge of/comfortable with configuration management & deployment tools.
Experienced with continuous integration/deployment using Jenkins or similar and is interested to quickly pick up and work on new technologies, tools and programming languages.
Experience with pushing forward the adoption of new technologies.
Contribute to both the Back End APIs and potentially the Front End frameworks.
Security conscious, knowledgeable of best practices around building secure applications.

What you'll need to succeed

- Strong experience with Ruby on Rails
- Strong experience with Javascript, CSS & HTML.
- Experience in API Development
- Experience with MySQL databases.
- Some experience with React
- Some experience with Heroku
- Some experience with Saas
- Some experience of working with content management systems
- Excellent understanding of software best practices
- Excellent communication skills
