Harvey Nash are seeking a temporary Research and Policy Officer to provide research support and analysis to our public sector clients, Principal Research Officer and policy support to the Senior Policy Officer.

This contract assignment will run for 6 months with a chance of an extension, inside of IR35. Candidates must have a valid Basic Disclosure Certificate. The daily rate for this role is ??200 - ??230 a day.

Candidates applying must have strong quantitative research experience.

The Role

  • The role sits within a multi-disciplinary team. The post holder may be expected to contribute to policy development work on an ad hoc basis.
  • This role will involve preparing and undertaking detailed analysis of current Scottish practice on sentence discounting to help to provide an evidence base from which a draft guideline can be constructed.
  • The role will also involve a project similar to the sentence discounting project on the topic of domestic abuse, analysis of court records and stakeholder engagement.
  • In-house support on the qualitative aspects of these projects will be available but quantitative support will be more limited. As a result, candidates must have solid quantitative research skills, along with some experience of qualitative research.
  • Additional ad hoc research support duties may also be required, this would include work on sensitive topic areas.

Essential Skills

Candidates applying must have strong quantitative research experience.

  • Research based postgraduate qualification or equivalent research experience.
  • Experience of qualitative research
  • 3+ years' research experience


  • Knowledge of or experience of the Scottish criminal justice system.
  • Experience interviewing high-status respondents.
  • Experience of research within the criminal justice system
  • Experience contributing to policy making decisions.
