About the role
Here at Babcock International we're looking for a Senior Delivery Engineer to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.
The Engineering Support Hub is a key customer facing department within the Naval Base Operations Business Unit. The business unit is responsible for delivering design solutions for extensive and diverse infrastructure upgrades and improvements across the entire Devonport site and often beyond. The demands on our facilities are constantly changing, as the pursuit of modern safety standards, adopting an Asset Management approach and changing requirements drives the need for revised and enhanced engineering solutions.
As a Senior Delivery Engineer you'll manage the delivery of assigned single, and multi-discipline, design projects to the required scope, quality standards, schedule and cost in support of modifications and upgrades to Devonport's infrastructure. You will have the experience and competence to integrate with a multidisciplinary organisation acting as the single point of contact for all stakeholders, including the external supply chain.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a developing part of the business undergoing significant transformation to support the Devonport Facilities requirements of the Future Maritime Support Programme (FMSP).
What do I need to do the role?
You'll be educated to degree level in an appropriate STEM discipline. A Chartered or Incorporated Engineer and a Member of a relevant engineering Professional Institute or working towards a professional qualification (CEng, IEng) is preferable, however significant, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of professional qualifications.
We would also like you to have the following:
- Engineering/infrastructure background eg associated with submarine maintenance, nuclear and/or conventional facilities;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and excellent stakeholder management ability;
- Sound understanding of engineering design and safety practice as relevant to project requirements;
- Sound understanding of relevant engineering design life cycle and project management practices;
- The ability produce information and outputs; to compile, summarise and report on these with professional independence and judgement.
Lastly, you'll be able to demonstrate excellent behavioural competencies, including leadership, teamwork, communication, delivery and strong ethics.
What else do I need to know?
The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
