It's a venture which focuses on our strengths; brand, distribution and data.

As a data scientist you'll use data in a variety of different ways to help the team make quicker, more intelligent business decisions. We'll look to you to provide valuable insights and build models that our insurance business can use to create a competitive advantage. In return, we can offer you the chance to apply your analytical skills in a start-up culture, with access to all the resources and developmental support you'd expect in a large organisation.

What you'll do

• use data to develop valuable business insights
• use data science techniques to drive customer value and sales
• use statistical techniques like logistic regression, clustering and segmentation
• analyse the customer journey and make recommendations for improvement
• build and deploy marketing effectiveness models
• use net promoter scores to identify commercial value
• drive innovation and explore ways in which we can better utilise Co-op data
• influence a range of internal partners, promoting and demonstrating the value of data

This role would suit people who have

• strong analytical skills with data science or modelling experience
• an inquisitive mind, able to take questions or requirements and use data to provide insight and recommendations
• experience writing and developing code (using SAS, SQL, Python, R or equivalent)
• experience building predictive models using Python, Microsoft Azure and Data Bricks
• excellent communication skills, able to challenge and influence a variety of people across the business
• a degree in a highly numerate subject e.g. Maths, Sciences, Computing, Engineering would be advantageous

Why Co-op?

Here you'll do work that matters. We're a commercial organisation with a purpose beyond profit, you'll have an opportunity to help us build a stronger Co-op and stronger communities. You'll also get a package that includes:

• competitive salary
• coaching, training and support to help you develop
• pension with up to 10% employer contributions
• annual incentive scheme
• 28 days holiday (rising to 32 in line with service)
• discounts on Co-op products and services

Building an inclusive work environment

We're actively building diverse teams and welcome applications from everyone. But simply having a diverse workforce is not enough. We aim to build an inclusive environment, where everyone can contribute their best work and develop to their full potential. We celebrate our differences and recognise the importance of teams reflecting the communities they serve.

We can make reasonable adjustments to our interview process according to your needs. And we offer a flexible working environment, so you can adjust your hours to suit your personal circumstances. You can find out more about Co-op people policies at colleagues.coop.co.uk.

As part of your application you'll need to complete an online assessment. It will take you around 12 minutes to complete this test.
