“This is an exciting new role working across Cabinet Office and HM Treasury which will shape the vision and delivery of reform of Public Bodies.”
Sarah Harrison, Chief Operating Officer, Cabinet Office
  • Are you looking for an opportunity to make a real difference at the heart of government?
  • Do you have a sound understanding of Public Bodies and recognise the important role they play in delivering government policy objectives and outcomes?
  • Have you successfully led large-scale transformative change previously?
  • Are you ready for a new challenge?

If so, you may be our new Director of Public Bodies.

Public Bodies play a vital role in delivering government policy priorities and delivering high quality public services. They need to be hard-wired into the Government’s agenda, spend public money efficiently and effectively and operate in a coherent and professional way. As Director of Public Bodies, working closely with sponsor departments and Public Bodies themselves, you will lead a joint Cabinet Office and HM Treasury reform programme focused on delivering improved performance in Public Bodies by enhancing the sponsorship, governance and monitoring of bodies. This work is closely aligned with a wider portfolio of initiatives which are focused on transforming government.

As Director of Public Bodies, you will need to build and maintain effective relationships with a wide group of stakeholders, inviting input and expertise and seizing opportunities to progress. As well as leading the Public Bodies Directorate in the Cabinet Office, you will also provide leadership across professional and organisational boundaries, including HM Treasury officials, and representatives from other government departments who lead on Public Bodies sponsorship.

You will need to have proven experience in leading and embedding large-scale transformative change, with expertise in complex programme delivery and total confidence using data and analysis to assess performance, drive continuous improvement and inform decision-making. A natural influencer, you will be able to demonstrate the ability to create effective partnerships across organisational boundaries, with the leadership skills to build diverse and high-performing teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement. You will also have a sound understanding of Public Bodies and appreciation of their role in delivering government policy and objectives.

If you have these skills and would relish the opportunity to develop strategies and initiatives for the future success of this crucial area of work, we look forward to receiving your application.
